A Personal Attack Alarm could Save your Life
There are many ways that you can protect yourself from possible attack. These include
carrying a firearm, a stun gun or a pepper spray device, and training in one of the martial arts. Another more
novel possibility is to carry a personal attack alarm wherever you go.
What appeals to many of the people who use personal alarm systems is that they are compact, portable and highly
effective. Self defense weapons are also reasonably inexpensive.
The way a personal attack alarm works is similar to most home alarm systems, except that you are the one who
triggers it manually, if someone threatens to assault or attack you. As you pull the pin out of the device, a
siren of sorts is sounded. This noise is high-pitched and very loud, and guaranteed to surprise any would-be
assailant, and attract the attention of passers-by. Furthermore, the noise will continue until the pin is
replaced. So if your attacker manages to get the alarm away from you, the noise will continue unabated.
What this means, though, is that you must keep it with you for protection. A personal
attack alarm is useless if you leave it in a drawer or even if you keep it in your purse or in a zipped up pocket.
If somebody does attack you, or threaten to attack you, you need to respond immediately, without hesitation. If the
alarm is in your purse, or you have to reach into your back pocket, you may not be able to sound the alarm in time.
So you need to be sure that it is accessible and easy to reach for. If you are running, walking or cycling,
consider hanging it around your neck. If you are in your car, keep it right next to you. More on personal safety training
While a personal attack alarm is ideal for people to use when they are not at home, this type of device may also
be used in the home. You can, of course, carry it around with you at home, in case an intruder gets in when your
home alarm is not armed. But you can also use personal attack alarms to protect various openings, particularly
vulnerable windows and doors. There are various designs that are made especially for this purpose, for example:
- two-in-one door alarms that double with a personal alarm,
- entry alarms that come with a remote control,
- door alarms that incorporate a mini LED light, and
- various glass guard alarms for window protection.
The beauty of these various personal safety alarms is that they can be
moved about and operated individually. This makes them ideal for use during the day when it is not practical to arm
a full-on home security system. And of course the ones that double with a personal alarm can be used both in and
out of the house.
Some personal attack alarm devices are also combined with alternative self defense devices including pepper or
mace self defense spray guns and mini stun gun. With these you have the benefit of noise plus some sort of more active
defense mechanism.
